Near Hofstra debate

Near Hofstra debate

Islip, NY 76A motorist traveling near the presidential debate site Tuesday morning refused an officers command to stop his vehicle and initially eluded officers, police said, but was stopped and arrested on a charge of reckless driving and other traffic violations. He was stopped and arrested a short time later at Reckson Plaza in Uniondale, near Hofstra, but not before a police helicopter was dispatched to help locate the vehicle, officials said.

Nassau police said the incident involved its Hofstra detail, but furnished no additional information as to why the driver might not have obeyed the officers command or tried to elude police.

Earl Ovington Boulevard was closed between Hempstead Turnpike and Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, and no commercial traffic was allowed on Hempstead Turnpike between Oak Street and Merrick Avenue. Westbound commercial traffic was diverted at Merrick Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike, and eastbound traffic was diverted at Oak and Hempstead Turnpike.

Hempstead Turnpike was open to passenger vehicles, but police advised that there would be intermittent closings especially near the main turnpike entrances to both Hofstra and the Nassau Coliseum.

Kingston HyperX Blu MHz GB xGB Memory Kit Review

Kingston HyperX Blu 1600MHz 16GB 2x8GB Memory Kit Review

When I think about memory, and which one to use Kingston is always on my short list. Kingston has been a player in the memory market since 1987 when the entered the market with a single product. Since then Kingston has branched out into several other products including SSDs, USB thumb drives, flash memory, and of course expanded their memory product line. Today we are going to look at one of their Kingston HyperX memory kits. The Kingston HyperX Blu KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G 16Gb memory kit consists of two 8Gb memory modules. This particular Kingston HyperX Blu memory kit is rated at 1600MHz with a CAS latency of 10.

The Kingston HyperX Blu product stack has a number of available memory kits. The DDR3 Kingston HyperX Blu line ranges from a single 2Gb module at 1333MHz CL9 up to our 16Gb 1600MHz CL10 kit.

The packaging for the Kingston HyperX Blu 16Gb memory kit isnt flashy in the least. Does it need to be, not at all. On the label we can find most of the information that we need, the part number KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G, how much memory 16Gb on this particular set, the frequency rating of 1600MHz, and the CAS Latency of CL10. I did notice that the rest of the memory timings arent on the label anywhere. We were able to find the timings of 10,10,10 on the online datasheet from Kingston. Though there was nothing on the cycle time tRAS that we could find. Hoping to find what I needed, I fired up CPUz.

To our dismay, there is no JEDEC settings for 1600MHz on the Kingston HyperX 16Gb kit. This did come as a little bit of a shock to us, we had no way to set the tRAS setting accurately. Fortunately the tRAS settings doesnt make a huge difference in the overall performance.

One side of the Kingston HyperX Blu memory modules heat spreader is adorned with the HyperX Blu logo, as well as DDR3. Its sharp looking, but once its inside of your system its rarely seen.

The other side of the DIMMs is similar, but is lacking the HyperX Blu logo. Instead we have the Kingston logo as well as the label with the kit information.

A close up of the label reveals that the memory timings arent on here either. It does however feature the model number KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G as well as the recommended voltage of 1.5V.

Inexpensive SSD Evolution

Inexpensive SSD Evolution

We posted a number of reviews of solid state drives based on the secondgeneration SandForce controller. The rest of available controllers can only feel jealous of its popularity which is not even diminished by certain problems such as its somewhat blemished reputation, not very high performance, and lack of variation in SandForcebased products. There is just no other controller which, like the SandForce, would permit to manufacture SSDs without any preparatory engineering work. LSI, the developer of the SF2281 chip, provides it bundled with everything necessary such as PCB design and firmware. The SSD manufacturer only has to actually assemble everything together on its production facilities.

That said, there are still a few original solutions that stand out among the crowd of identical SandForcebased SSDs. They are offered by Intel which designs its SSDs and develops firmware independently. As a result, Intel SandForcebased products are really different in their consumer properties. They are faster and have no stability issues. Intel itself seems to be quite satisfied with the SandForce platform as is indicated by its plans on releasing new modifications of SSDs with the same SF2281 controller inside.

We were pleased with Intel first and flagship SSD we tested about a year ago. When benchmarked today, the Intel SSD 520 can still deliver good performance. Average in terms of speed, this series features immaculate stability and very high reliability thanks to premium flash memory with a service life of 5000 reprogram cycles. It comes with a 5year warranty, by the way. That the longest warranty among all SandForcebased SSDs. So, the Intel SSD 520 is an interesting product, yet it couldn really be a market hit due to its high price. That why it was followed by more affordable solutions.

Some time ago we tested Intel SSD 330, which is similar to the Intel SSD 520 in design but has less reliable flash memory with a service life of 3000 program/erase cycles and is slowed down somewhat on the firmware level. The warranty period is shortened to 3 years. Otherwise, the Intel SSD 330 is quite a typical SSD from Intel. It is somewhat faster than other SandForcebased products, free from critical bugs, and perfectly compatible with the popular Intel SSD Toolbox utility.

Recently, Intel has come up with yet another affordable SSD which is even slightly cheaper than the SSD 330. The Intel SSD 335 model has provoked some excitement, especially as it doesn differ from the SSD 330 in its official specs. In this review we will try to find out why it is cheaper and in what features it actually differs from its cousin.

How to Visualize

How to Visualize

Visualization is a technique used by winners in all walks of life. If you really want something to come to fruition, put your imaginative mind to work. See the result in front of you, play the game you are going to play in your mind or watch yourself accepting your degree at college. The only limit is your own mind.

You can use visualization to acquire new habits, like eating healthier or eating slowly which prevents overeating and obesity; have you ever seen an aerobatic pilot visualizing his/her routine on the ground using only the hands and the imagination? Have you ever rehearsed a job interview in your mind?Move your imagination into the real world. After you have spent a moment, day, month or even years visualizing the possibilities, now shift to focus mode. Right at the moment before you perform the activity, task or event that will achieve an outcome or even the outcome toward your goal, focus clearly on the picture of the action you are about to make. For example, if you are trying to hit a ball, picture hitting it clearly in your mind, stroke by stroke, at the right height and the right speed. Watch the ball being hit by your instrument, flying through the air and landing wherever it is meant to land. Add all senses to the experience, hear the approaching ball, hear and feel the impact, smell the grass. Nothing is going to get better when you feel lousy about yourself and your chances in life. A positive mindset will reset an erring period of bad luck. It will turn that half empty glass into the half full glass; the rainy day into the silverlined cloud. Anybody who wants change overnight will be disappointed. Even if you won a fortune in the morning, youd be as dissatisfied with your life in 6 months time as you are now unless you look inside to what ails you. Instead, plan to make realization of your hopes and dreams long term. Visualize where you will be in 5, 10 and 15 years time and the sorts of outcomes you want. But dont just make a shallow photo of you in a Porsche surrounded by a large house, massive diamond collection and fawning friends. Thats artificial and will not prove healthy nor satisfying in the long run. Visualization only works when you are calm, at ease and willing to give yourself time to focus in peace, free from immediate worries. Visualization is a technique very close to meditation, only it is more active and vivid. Its not enough to want to be the president. You need to think about the qualities that will assist getting to this goal. Visualize not only the presidency but also the skills of open communication, persuasiveness, smiling, sharing, listening, discussing, being able to deflect criticism with skill and respect etc. It is likely there will be skills you need to work on but again, use visualization to focus on separate skills to bring them up to par.

Visualization takes practice. Everyone has the power to do but not everyone has the belief in it. If you are skeptical, you may want to convince yourself that this is a waste of time. Do not give into this temptation because everyone, skeptics included, can benefit from visualizing. It is about our brains ability to synthesize results, a scientifically proven fact.

Help others to visualize. One of the best gifts you can ever give is that of hope and visualizing is a part of hope for better things. Teach others how to do it once you have the confidence and youll be sharing around pieces of hope.

House passes Bachmann

House passes Bachmann

House voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act on Thursday night, its 37th vote to defund or dismantle the law, or portions of it, since Republicans took control of the House in 2011. Rep. Michele Bachmann sponsored the legislation this time around, the first time one of her ACA Obamacare repeal bills has seen floor action, though she has cosponsored several others. Her argument against the law had a new angle to it this week: In the wake of the Internal Revenue Services admission that it had targeted conservative political groups taxexempt status applications, the American people shouldnt give the agency more power, she said the IRS issues health care subsidies and imposes penalties under the law.

Could there potentially be political implications regarding health care access to health care, denial of health care will that happen based upon a persons political beliefs or their religiouslyheld beliefs? she said at a press conference Thursday morning. These questions would have been considered out of bounds a week ago, but today these questions are considered more than reasonable and more than fair for the American people.

Bachmann will begin airing a TV ad campaign on the repeal vote on Thursday night.

The bill passed on a mostly partyline 229195 vote two Democrats voted yes, though the Democraticallycontrolled Senate will not take it up, and the White House has said President Obama would veto it.

GPU Gameplay Performance Review

GPU Gameplay Performance Review

On October 11th, 2011 AMDs Bulldozer CPUs were launched. We looked at Desktop Performance as well as Gameplay Performance on the AMD FX8150 CPU. Our initial Gameplay Performance Review of the AMD FX8150 focused on performance with a singleGPU at 1080p. Our results in that configuration indicated that performance was similar between the CPUs compared, except in Civilization V which showed a major advantage toward the Intel CPUs.

The goal of this evaluation today is to expand upon gaming performance with the AMD FX8150 CPU using multipleGPUs and higher resolutions. In our initial evaluation, we used a single Radeon HD 6970 GPU. This time, we are going to be using NVIDIAs GeForce GTX 580, but we are using more than just one. We will be using two for standard SLI, and we are also including three in a TriSLI configuration. On top of that, we are going to be testing in a tripledisplay NV Surround setup that lets us test up to a resolution of 5760x1200, well beyond the 1080p we tested before. To add to that, we are including more games, this time seven games are included, and we had wanted to include an eighth, but we had difficulty getting it work as we will explain later.

The idea of going with two and three GPUs is that as the GPU count increases, the CPU must be able to keep up and provide enough performance for SLI to remain efficient. We have chosen specifically to use the GeForce GTX 580 for this because we have tested with absolute certainty in the past that CPU performance affects GTX 580 SLI and TriSLI more than it does Radeon HD 6970 CFX and TriFire. Therefore, since we know AMD FX8150 isnt exactly up to par already with Sandy Bridge from our prior testing, we think we might see some large differences in performance today.

We are only going to be comparing AMD FX8150 to an Intel i5 2500K today. In our previous testing, we found that there are no gaming performance differences between the 2500K and 2600K when overclocked to 4.8GHz. Weve already seen how even the 2500K is not much of a challenge for the AMD FX8150 in previous testing. Therefore, we started testing with the 2500K for this evaluation, and with the results we received, we saw no need to do any testing with the 2600K. Both CPUs are overclocked as high as stably possible, the AMD FX8150 is running at 4.6GHz and the Intel i5 2500K is running at 4.8GHz. We have found these to be easy overclocks to attain on these processors using moderate water cooler solutions.
