Why am I a slow learner and not confident about my intelligence

Why am I a slow learner and not confident about my intelligence

SelfConfidence: Why am I a slow learner and not confident about my intelligence?

In college, my friends would learn the material faster than I do. I am always behind and I have to double the time of studying to be in their level. My thought process is slow and the information don sink fast enough. It like if I have a dual processor and my friends have i7 processor. I am always doubting my intelligence in every situation. If I am solving a problem like taking the integral / derivative of some equation my mind tells me the answer will most likely be wrong. If I am solving a circuit problem, I feel the same way. Only if I practice a lot of times I would gain some confidence in what I do. I can even do simple math computation in my head too fast even if it is like 7+9, I have to spend few seconds to think about the answer. It not like 1+1, and I can think of the answer instantaneously. I just can seem to trust my intelligence. My mentality is like. If I don understand it the first time, I am not meant to learn it. Its not for me and I will not get it.

So, how do I overcome this problem? How do I improve my intelligence? How do I understand faster? How do I study? How do I increase my mental capacity?

In your journey towards greatness, you must first come to terms with the fact that different people have different talents.

Look at the greatest genius you admire in any discipline. No matter how great they one day became, they started like everybody elseat the beginning.

I would guess, at least partially, you may be suffering from knowledge gaps that impair your speed or ability to grasp the concepts you are currently learning. My suggestion is going back to the basics.

Think of your brain as a muscle. If one day you woke up and decided to go to the gym for the first time in your life, and tried to lift weights like Arnold Swcharzenegger, you would hurt yourself : What you would do is go through a rigorous training program of good nutrition and exercise, moving up your weights as you improved. You may never become Mister Olympia, but surely you would eventually be in great shape.

Same with knowledge. You must start at the beginning.

If you currently having trouble with derivatives, go back to geometry.

If you having trouble with geometry, go back to arithmetic.

Practice, practice, practice until it becomes second nature.

If you having problems with writing, start reading more.

If you having problems with reading comprehension or speed, commit to learning 2 new words each day.

The wider your knowledge base becomes, the easier the things on top will get.

And remember that learning isn just glancing at something. It understanding it. It being curious as to why and how it works. the more you understand, the easier it becomes to understand other things. Eventually, it will be a pleasure to learn new things. Speed will come naturally.

Is it a lot of work? Yes.

Is it a lot of time? Yes.

But, like a building, if the foundations aren solid, everything on top will crumble.

There a chance some of your peers have more brainpower than you. It a fact of life, every day you in contact with some people that are more gifted than you, and with others that are less gifted than you. While you can do anything about genetics, you can always improve your lot with work.
