Peachtree Rock Topo Map

Peachtree Rock Topo Map

A visit to a prehistoric rock formations along two short loop trails through varied vegetation. Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve is a 306acre refuge dedicated to the protection of a number of unique sandstone formations and the flora and fauna surrounding them. Peachtree Rock, Little Peachtree Rock, and other interesting formations are the main attractions. However, the flora and fauna are also unique and worth taking time to view. Even though the preserve lies in central South Carolina, many miles from the mountains, mountain laurel flourishes here. Moreover, one plant, the blueberry vine called Rayners blueberry, is found nowhere else but here in Lexington County. The trees are mostly turkey oak and longleaf pine, but others such as mockernut hickory dot the forest. A variety of lizards, including eastern fence lizards, Carolina anoles, and various skinks, scramble underfoot. Birds are somewhat scarce, but pileated woodpeckers, tufted titmice, summer tanagers, and whiteeyed and redeyed vireos can usually be found. One of South Carolinas best hikes, Peachtree Rock is located near Columbia, SC. Trails printable online topo maps offer shaded and unshaded reliefs, and aerial photos too!
