mild cardiomyopathy
what determines mild, moderate and severe dilated cardiomyopathy? my daughter is 2yrs into diagnosis of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. i had hoped that repairing an anuerysmal bulge near the mitral aortic junction would improve her condition her ef is 35% unchanged in 2yrs despite 50mgs of coreg, 2.5 vasotec and 25 inspra i have been told after getting a second opinion at Uof Mich that repairing or replacing the mitral valve would not improve her condition, and her med regimen is the best course she is 22yrs old and mentally impaired how long can she remain stable on meds? i am concerned about the future
Cardiomyopathies can vary significantly in their course. Most of this is determined by the underlying cause which is not always able to be found. Potential causes include viruses, genectic conditions such as muscular dystrophies, and autoimmune attacks among many other possible etiologies.
I suspect that the best course for your daughter will be to stay on the medications and continue to follow her heart. With only mild cardiomyopathy it is unlikely that any more aggressive intervetion will be needed. Her cardiomyopathy may progress or may heal depending on the underlying cause however, give not change in two years resolution is probably a little less likely.
